Frozen City

Winter Carnival has arrived folks.

This was actually taken about a month ago and is a fence around a yard on Dunlap just north of Grand Avenue.

Chocolate. It's that chocolatey time of year people. Magical little pockets filled with all kinds of heaven. If you don't have a Valentine to buy them for you, for God sakes buy them for yourself! I actually have a Valentine but I still buy my own chocolates every year. We all deserve it so go ahead and splurge!

Love is on the wall

Today when I walked into my living room, one of my prisms was casting a heart shaped rainbow on the wall. It didn't photograph very well but I wanted to post it anyway. Enjoy.

Chilly Lady

Saw this snowy gal parked on Summit and thought she looked both sad & neglected AND brave & tough depending on her story. But I'm glad my gal is tucked away safe and warm until spring.

Just Because..............

This is NOT in St. Paul. It's not even close to St. Paul. It's actually in Snowbird, Utah and I took it at the end of this past summer. But I've been going through all my best pictures for my portfolio because I want to go to art school and I've always felt that my photo blog is not my best work. So here is something I'm really proud of. Enjoy! And Happy Friday! :)

Who knew that salvage yards were such marvelous places to take pictures? The one in St. Paul my friend h and I wanted to go to was closed :( but we found this one which was technically in Minneapolis. Located right next door to Cupcake, there were all sorts of treasures to be discovered, like these antique doorknobs.

Cupcake

Anyplace named Cupcake earns an investigative stop from me! Even if it is in Minneapolis and not St. Paul. I ordered The Bettie Crocker Cupcake (spelled the way Cupcake spells it). Vanilla with pink buttercream frosting. Sadly, it was not as good as I was hoping. The frosting was really heavy & dense and so so so so so sweet. Not quite was I was expecting but there were lots of other treats behind the glass that looked tempting. Maybe I'll stop in again sometime, have some brunch, a cup of coffee & a scone or something. Anyplace named Cupcake deserves a second chance.

Within walking distance of my house. The food is cheap, greasy and fantastic!!! We liked it better before the renovations but it still works on a Sunday morning to occasionally soothe a touch of the brown bottle flu!

Fall Meets Winter

I love that this tree still has it's leaves (which turned brown in the fall)
and is now surrounded by snow.

Going for a walk on a rainy day is always a good idea!

Rainy Day

It started out as a rainy day today, but it has now turned to snow! Has winter finally arrived?

There aren't many Jewish deli's in St. Paul. In fact, Cecil's is the only one I know of. It's no Chompies (the Jewish deli I LOVED when I lived in Phoenix) but it's not bad.

Finally opened and just down the block from my house. How could you ask for more?

After Christmas Glow

All over St. Paul, families are basking in the after Christmas glow. And all over St. Paul garbage bins are overflowing in the after Christmas excess.

A few more pics of La Cucharacha. I once had some kind pulled pork tacos or something there. They were so good I almost fell out of my chair. But I'm willing to branch out and try new places. Thanks to Kate for the suggestion of El Bravo. We will for sure give it a try.

And now, a trip through 7 Corners Hardware

Since the dawn of time, 7 Corners Hardware has been providing St. Paul with its building needs. No triple wide aisles or teenaged workers here. The aisles are narrow, the shelves crowded and the workers experienced. Rather than looking for the needed item yourself, it's always better to ask since most likely, it's on a shelf 10 feet high behind 3 other boxes of things you don't need. But they have it all folks! There is a sign that says "No photos" that I really wanted a photo of but it's right near the register so I didn't dare. So the in the days to come, I'll post what I was able to shoot from under my coat. Enjoy and stop by next time you have some building or repair needs.
