Targeting the Twins

Being the home and headquarters for Target, not only do we have loads of stores and corporate offices for Target here, but we also have major stadiums and areas named after them.  Behold Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins, as sun sets over downtown Minneapolis on a truly perfect summer evening.

By the way, the Twins won the game.  :)

One of our 10,000

Just a quick jaunt south of the cities lies Lake Pepin.  It is a naturally occurring lake and the widest spot on the Mississippi River.  It forms the border between Minnesota and Wisconsin. It's a gorgeous drive down there and well worth the trip.  The gorgeous bluffs along both sides and the charming farmland along the way add to the beauty of the area.

Please Enter Car Here

Kind of a goofy little sign.  It's a parking spot.....we get how it works.  But I love the look of the backside of this building.  Grand Avenue and Cambridge Street.

McUgh's!

There are all kinds of McDonald's out there.  Some of them are unique or funky or downright bizzare.  This one is just ugly.  And no windows along one side???  It's like something out of my nightmares!  15th Avenue and SE 4th Street, Dinkeytown.

Back to the 50's

I love, love, LOVE wandering around looking at cars.  Those fins and all those rumbling engines...gets me all tingly in my naughty parts.  This is a yearly event for me.  I couldn't choose between my two favorite shots this year, so you get BOTH.  Enjoy!
Oh, and someday I WILL own either a 1959 or 1960 Impala convertible.  Black.  With red interior.  YOWZA!!!!

Minnesota State Fairgrounds.

Presidential Hoodie

Did Nixon get a windbreaker?  Did Regan get an anorak?  Me thinks not.

6/21/11 Follow Up:  Saw a pair of Obama YES WE CAN sneakers as I went into Walmart today.  Not shitting you, OBAMA SNEAKERS!!!!  (Let's not talk about the fact that I was heading into Walmart, ok?  It was for WORK).  Something about wearing a presidential likeness on your backside or your feet just seems disrespectful to me.

Kid Bullets!

There's "Kid Bullets" right there in the center.
DeGidio's Restaurant & Bar was founded by Joe "Kid Bullets" DeGidio and his nephew Camille , a successful bootlegger during the late 1920's and early 1930's. At one point, he operated 12 stills in the St. Paul area. When prohibition ended in 1933, "Kid Bullets" parlayed his bootlegging profits and opened DeGidio's Restaurant and Bar at this same location. DeGidio's was a favorite watering hole for many of the most notorious mob figures during St. Paul's famous gangster era. Of course, all mob ties were severed many decades ago! (SURE they were!) Today, DeGidio's remains owned and operated by "Kid Bullets" son and grandchildren at this same location.

It's All Over But The Clean Up

I missed Grand Old Day this year because I was out of town.  But this morning, traces of the festival were everywhere in the form of discarded litter and rows and rows of port-a-johns.  These on the corner of Grand and Victoria were getting loaded up on a giant shit-semi to be hauled away.....until next year.

Minnehaha Depot

Milwaukee Road employees referred to the Minnehaha Depot as the "Princess" because of its delicate gingerbread canopy. The Depot was built in 1875 to replace a smaller station on the first railroad line into the Twin Cities from Chicago. In the Depot’s early years, Minneapolis residents flocked to Minnehaha Park via train to enjoy summer weekends. I like to just ride my bicycle past it.
